FAQs

Question 1: What are fire safety codes and what does it mean to be Fire Safety Compliant?

Fire Codes are regulations established by local authorities that dictate the minimum standards for fire safety in buildings.

Fire Safety Compliance means adhering to local, state, and federal regulations regarding fire safety measures in buildings.

Question 2: What federal regulations apply to me and my business?

You will want to consult with proper legal counsel to ensure you are aware of all regulations that apply to your business.  Two organizations that are often involved in Fire Safety Codes are:

NFPA (National Fire Protection Association)

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is a nonprofit organization created to keep people safe from fires. For over 100 years the NFPA has established rules and regulations for all potential fire hazards. At Steel Mountain, we are committed to complying with these rules. This includes NFPA 96, which has to do with the protection of commercial cooking operations.

OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration)

Question 3: What is NFPA 96?

NFPA 96 is the National Fire Protection Associations Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations

Question 4: What are the most trusted brands in fire suppression?

Ansul systems like the R-102 use advanced proprietary wet chemicals to shut a fire down and keep it that way. It’s not enough to extinguish a flash fire thus preventing re-flash is absolutely critical. The R-102 uses Ansul’s Low pH Liquid Agent to immediately quell fires and cool the affected area. Then, the system forms a chemical “blanket” to prevent fuel sources like grease and electrical equipment from reigniting. If your fire protection system doesn’t give you this, you need to call Steel Mountain.

ProtexII, by Heiser, is a pre-designed, wet chemical solution specifically crafted to safeguard commercial kitchens. It features straightforward installation, servicing, and upkeep, and includes a manufacturer’s warranty. Experienced experts provide training sessions at accessible locations nationwide.

Pyro-Chem From restaurants and other commercial food operations, to gas stations/convenience stores and a wide range of commercial and industrial facilities, Pyro-Chem offers advanced turnkey products and accessories to help you protect your building, your staff and your customers with utmost confidence and safety.
